The following temporary works process follows the requirements specified in BS 5975:2019 and the actions to be identified and verified on the Temporary Works Register that should be reflected in the Temporary Works Implementation Plan.
1. Permanent works designer to identify and make provision for temporary works that enables building their design to an assumed construction method.
2. Principal Designer to ensure permanent works designer has identified and made provision for temporary works.
3. Designated Individual to appoint a Pre-construction TWC, who may also be the Project TWC.
4. TWC to identify temporary works or structures needed on the project on the Temporary Works Register.
5. Pre-construction TWC or Project TWC to identify implementation risk classification based on location of temporary works and the consequence of failure.
5. Contracts or commercial team to identify contractors to be appointed and issue Contractor Questionnaire to assess their capability and competency.
6. Designated Individual to ensure contractors and individuals appointed have the necessary competency and capability, and have identified and appointed a Project TWC, and TWS's where necessary.
7. Project TWC to complete Temporary Works Execution Risk Assessment and Temporary Works Implementation Plan.
8. Competent person to complete a Design Brief and prepare all associated documentation. These are considered the design hazards, considerations or risks and also expressed as design inputs.
9. Commercial, technical or procurement team, liaison with Project TWC, to identify competent temporary works designer and temporary works design checker. The temporary works designer and temporary works design checker could be the supplier.
10. Establish the appropriate design check category and commercial, technical or procurement team, liaison with Project TWC, to identify competent temporary works design checker. The could also be the supplier and should be specified in the Design Brief and their scope of works.
11. Project TWC to review and sign-off the Design Brief, and to ensure it covers all design risks. Refer to BS 5975:2019 Clause 13.2.
12. Project TWC to complete Design Certificate PART 1.
13. Project TWC to issue Design Brief, and all associated documents, and Design Certificate PART 1 to temporary works designer.
14. Temporary works designer and Project TWC to identify design check category.
15. Temporary works designer to provide a suitably robust solution that meets the requirements of the Design Brief, and all associated documents, and complete Design Certificate PART 2. The solution should be designed to withstand all foreseeable loads. These are also expressed as design outputs or deliverables.
16. Project TWC to issue Design Brief, and all associated documents, and Design Certificate PART 1 and PART 2 to temporary works design checker.
17. Temporary works design checker to check for concept, adequacy, correctness and compliance with the Design Brief and all associated documents.
18. Temporary works design checker to issue Design Certificate PART 3 to Project TWC.
19. Procurement team to select a suitable supplier that can provide a suitable structure based on the requirements of the design deliverables in consultation with the Project TWC. The temporary works designer could be he supplier.
20. Contractor to provide risk assessments and method statements for the installation of the temporary works. These may also be incorporated into task-specific risk assessments and method statements to build or install permanent works.
21. Risk assessments and method statements provided by contractor to be reviewed and for works to be authorised.
22. Temporary works designer and project temporary works coordinator to prepare Temporary Works Inspection and Test Plan, if not already done so. Identify any Hold Points.
23. Competent person, could be the temporary works supervisor, to inspect on delivery and before installation. Temporary Works Inspection Report issued to Project TWC for review.
24. If required, competent person, could be the temporary works supervisor, to inspect during build, in accordance with Temporary Works Inspection and Test Plan and Hold Points. Temporary Works Inspection Report issued to Project TWC to enable build to move to the next stage.
25. On completion, competent person, could be the temporary works supervisor, to inspect before first use. Temporary Works Inspection Report issued to Project TWC for review.
26. PC's TWC, an authorised contractors TWC or TWS, to complete and issue a Permit to bring into use. The person issuing the Permit to bring into use is determined by the implementation risk classification.
29. Competent person, could be the temporary works supervisor, to inspect during use and identify any residual risks. Temporary Works Inspection Report issued to Project TWC for review.
27. Contractor to provide risk assessments and method statements for the removal of the temporary works.
28. Risk assessments and method statements provided by contractor to be reviewed and for works to be authorised.
29. Competent person, could be the temporary works supervisor, to inspect before removal and identify any residual risks. If applicable, permanent works to be confirmed as self-supporting or complete. Temporary Works Inspection Report issued to Project TWC for review.
30. PC's TWC, an authorised contractors TWC or TWS, to complete and issue a Permit to take out of use. The person issuing the Permit to take out of use is determined by the implementation risk classification.
